Rabbi Jim Stoloff joins Temple Israel of the City of New York as our new Assistant Rabbi beginning July 1, 2013. He becomes part of our clergy team alongside Rabbi Gelfand, Cantor Abelson, Rabbi Buyer and Cantor Ben-David.
For the past five years, Jim has been a rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati. In addition to his studies at the college, he has enjoyed a wide variety of rabbinical responsibilities including work at URJ summer camps, hospital chaplaincy at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and a High Holy Day rabbinical internship at Congregation Shaare Emeth in Saint Louis. He is currently the Religious School Music Director of Rockdale Temple in Cincinnati, and is concluding his third year as student rabbi at Temple Beth Shalom in Marquette, MI.
Rabbi Stoloff graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Memphis in 2008 and he will be ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion on June 8. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Jim enjoys the great outdoors, reading, ultimate frisbee, and spending time with family and friends.
Our Search Committee, chaired by Beth Lee, was enthusiastic and unanimous in its choice of Rabbi Stoloff, and the Board of Trustees unanimously endorsed that choice. We will update you with a date as to when we will welcome Rabbi Stoloff with a formal installation into our congregation.
Personally and on behalf of the Search Committee and the Board of Trustees, we reiterate our delight at being able to introduce Rabbi Jim Stoloff to the Temple Israel family.
